We run this mill at 22 5 232. It’s a big space because you need room for the rolling process. The heat from the furnace is something you never really get used to. It’s always there, making the air thick. We have shifts running throughout the day and night. The metal glows orange when it’s hot, and you can feel the heat from several feet away. It’s a very industrial environment. There are no flowers or decorations here. Just heavy machines, iron, and workers in overalls. The sound of the rollers is a constant hum that stays in your ears even after you leave. We spend a lot of time maintaining the equipment. If a machine breaks, everything stops, so we have to be careful. The floors are dark and covered in grit. We have a small area where we keep the finished rods and bars. Trucks come in and out at all hours. We don't have a fancy front office. The manager sits in a small cabin that’s mostly glass so he can see the floor. We drink tea from small glass cups brought by the local boy. It’s hard work and the hours are long. We don't talk much because of the noise. Everyone just knows their job and does it. It’s a tough business but it keeps us going. The metal keeps moving through the machines all day and night. It is a loud and busy life for all of us.
