Shashi Metal Processing Works

Down in Phase-III of the IDA, things are a bit spread out. Shashi Metal Processing Works is tucked away at Plot No. 32-a, and it can be a bit tricky to find if you aren't looking for the faded blue door. The building is mostly corrugated metal, so it gets quite loud when the machines are running or when it’s raining. We don't have any air conditioning, just a couple of industrial fans that hum loudly in the corner. The floor is always covered in tiny metal shavings that get stuck in your boots no matter how much you sweep. We spend the whole day moving sheets of metal from one side of the shop to the other. Shashi is usually here before anyone else, opening up the gates and checking the oil levels in the equipment. There’s a small desk in the corner with a mountain of paperwork, but mostly we are on our feet on the shop floor. It’s a gritty kind of job. Your clothes end up smelling like iron and sweat by the end of the shift. We don't do much in the way of decoration; the only things on the walls are safety posters that have turned yellow over time. It’s an honest way to spend the day, just processing the orders as they come in and making sure the machines don't break down on us. It is just the way we work.
