Jai Bhawani Kirana & General Store

Our shop, Jai Bhawani Kirana & General Store, is tucked away at 12-1-1/C/61 in Satya Nagar. It is a bit of a maze back here in Lalapet but we have been at this corner for years. We sell the usual things like tea leaves, sugar, dals, and those small packets of biscuits kids like. The space is small so we have to use every inch of the walls to hang things up. You might have to squeeze past a crate of soda to get to the counter. It isn't the most modern place you'll ever see, but it works for us and the people living on this street. I spend most of my day sitting on the wooden stool by the till, listening to the radio and greeting neighbors. Sometimes the neighbor’s cat comes in and sits on the bags of flour until I chase it off. We don't have a computer or anything, just a notebook and a calculator that has seen better days. It gets dusty because of the construction nearby, so I'm always dusting the jars. We try to keep prices fair because we know everyone's situation around here. People come in for a single onion or a whole month's worth of supplies. We don't mind either way. It’s just how we make our living here in Satya Nagar, day in and day out.
