The area of Agha Pura-Nampally in Hyderabad is quite old and has its own rhythm. Our shop is a small one, tucked into the street where we’ve set up everything to be within reach. We carry the basic groceries that most households need for their daily cooking. It gets quite frantic in the afternoons when the school lets out and everyone is trying to get home or pick up a few things for dinner. We don’t have much room for fancy decorations, so we just focus on keeping the pulses, grains, and spices in stock. Some days are slower than others, especially when it rains and the street gets a bit muddy, but we stay open regardless. We’ve grown used to the sounds of the neighborhood and the specific requests of the people who live nearby. It’s mostly about managing the stock and making sure the jars are filled.
