Our unit is tucked away in the Ida Uppal area, specifically at B-15 in the Ductron Castings section. If you’ve ever been to Uppal, you know it’s a busy industrial hub where everyone is busy making something. The foundry is a hot place, there’s no way around that. We spend our days around the furnaces and the molds, and by the end of the shift, everyone is pretty much covered in dust and grit. It’s been like this for a long time. The machines are old but they still work if you treat them right. We don’t have a flashy entrance or a big sign. It’s just a gate and a lot of heavy iron moving around. Most of our guys have been doing this for decades; they can tell if a pour is right just by the color of the metal. We handle a lot of different castings, mostly for other industrial companies that need specific parts. It’s heavy work, and it can be dangerous if you aren’t paying attention, so we tend to be a pretty serious group when we’re on the floor. After work, we usually hang around for a bit, maybe grab a chai and talk about the day before heading home through the traffic. It’s not an easy living, but it’s honest work, and we take some pride in seeing a finished piece come out of the sand. We just try to get the orders filled and keep the furnaces going day after day.
