Dr Gowri Shankar

You'll find my practice over in Hyderabad 500001. I go by Dr Gowri Shankar, and this area is pretty central so there’s always a lot of activity right outside my window. The office is quite plain inside. I’ve got my desk, a couple of chairs for patients, and some cabinets for records. We still keep a lot of things on paper because it just feels more reliable to me. The walls are a neutral color, and I have a small plant in the corner that I sometimes forget to water. It’s not a high-tech facility, but it’s a place where you can sit down and talk about what’s wrong. Most of my patients live in the surrounding streets. They come in for all sorts of reasons. I’ve seen this neighborhood change over the decades, but the need for a local doctor is always there. We don't have a fancy waiting area with a TV; people usually just chat with each other while they wait. My assistant is good at keeping things organized, even when we get a rush of people all at once. It’s a very human way to work. No one here is trying to sell you anything or use big words to impress you. We just take things one patient at a time. The heat in Hyderabad can be tough in the summer, but we have a good ceiling fan that keeps things moving. It’s a modest setup, but it’s served us well for a very long time.
