Chouhan Kirana Store

Running a shop like Chouhan Kirana Store in Banjara Hills Colony keeps us on our feet all day. We are tucked away in the Ginni Compound area, not too far from Meenakshi Chowk. Most of the people who come in are our neighbors who live just a few houses down. We keep the shelves stocked with the usual things people need for their kitchens and homes. It’s not a giant supermarket, so we know where every single bag of rice and bottle of oil is kept. Sometimes the deliveries arrive late because of the narrow streets, and we have to stack boxes wherever they fit until we can sort them out. It’s a bit cramped in here, especially when more than two people are trying to shop at once, but we make it work. We’ve been at this spot for years, and the walls show a bit of wear and tear. The floor is old stone, and the fan overhead makes a little clicking sound, but it keeps us cool enough. We open up early because that’s when people want their milk and bread. By the evening, it gets a bit social with folks stopping by to chat for a minute while they pick up some spices or soap. We don’t have any fancy displays, just the goods and a counter where we keep the accounts in a thick notebook. It’s a simple life running a local kirana store where everyone knows your name.
