Uttam General Store

Uttam General Store is located at Kalinagar Chowrasta in Uluberia. We are right on the Shyampur Road in Howrah, which is a place that stays busy with people traveling back and forth all day long. Being at a chowrasta means we see a lot of different faces every single day. We stock all the basic things a household might need in a hurry. From cooking spices to soaps and even some basic hardware items like light bulbs, we try to have a little bit of everything. The shop is small and the shelves are packed high to make the most of the limited space we have. Sometimes it is hard for me to find things, but I have a system that works well enough. I’ve been running this place for many years now and I’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit as more people move in. The traffic on Shyampur Road has definitely increased over the years. We get a lot of commuters who stop by for a quick snack or a bottle of water. I have a small wooden stool where I sit when there aren't many customers around. My son helps me out during the weekends when he is home from school. We don't use any fancy computer systems here; everything is done the old-fashioned way with a ledger and a pen. It works for us and our customers don't seem to mind the wait.
