Shaw Variety Stores

Shaw Variety Stores is located right on Nalpur Station Road in the Raghudevbati area of Howrah. Being so close to the station means we see a lot of people coming and going all day long. We try to have a little bit of everything because you never know what someone getting off a train might need. We have snacks, small household tools, batteries, and some basic medicines. The shop is a bit cluttered because we have so much stuff in a small space. It might look a bit messy to an outsider, but we know exactly where everything is kept. If you ask for a specific lightbulb, we can usually find it in a few seconds. My wife helps me manage the customers when it gets busy during the morning rush. The heat in West Bengal can be a lot, especially in the afternoons, so we have a small stool in the shade where we sit when things are quiet. We have been here for years and have seen the kids in the neighborhood grow up. Some of them now come in with their own children. It’s a good feeling to be part of the community like that. We don't do anything special, just show up and open the doors for whoever needs us. The station clock is what we use to know when it is time to pack up.
