S. P. Gupta Store

My family has been at 8/3 Bharpara Road for a long time. This is the Bharpara Railway Colony area in Howrah. People around here just call it S. P. Gupta Store. It’s a basic spot where we keep the things people need daily. You won't find anything fancy here. I open up early every morning because the railway workers and neighbors are already out and about. The shop isn't very big, but we manage to fit quite a bit inside. Sometimes the shelves look a bit messy when we get a new delivery, but that's just how it goes. We know most of the faces that walk through the door. It’s quiet in the afternoons when the sun is hot, then it picks up again in the evening. Living and working in the same spot means I don't have a commute, which is nice. We handle the usual stuff like groceries and small household items. The building is old, and we’ve done some repairs over the years, but it stays the same mostly. If you are walking down Bharpara Road, you will see us right there. It is just a regular life here. I spend a lot of time sitting on the wooden stool behind the counter. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just stop by when they run out of milk or sugar. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy enough throughout the week. We close up when it gets dark and start again the next day.
