Kashinath General Store

Kashinath General Store is a typical shop on Station Road in Amta. We focus on the basic things that families need for their kitchens, like different types of rice, dal, and cooking oil. The shop is pretty packed with sacks and boxes, so there isn't much room for people to walk around inside. We usually just stand behind the counter and fetch what people ask for. In the evenings, it gets very busy when the trains arrive and everyone is heading home. I have a young man who helps me weigh the goods and tie them up in packets. We still use the old metal weights for some of our items because they feel more sturdy than the new digital ones. The road outside is always full of traffic and noise from the buses and bikes. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time and have seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. We don't do any advertising or have a big flashy sign. People just know where we are. Dealing with the suppliers can be a bit of a struggle sometimes, especially when prices go up, but we try to keep things as steady as possible for our regulars. It’s a simple business and we are just happy to be a part of the daily life here in West Bengal.
