Our office is at 39, Baikunth Chatterjee Lane. We are in Howrah, West Bengal, 711 101. AK Modi & Co. is a firm of Chartered Accountants. We’ve been in this lane for a long time. It’s a typical Howrah street, a bit narrow and always full of life. We work out of a modest space. There are desks, computers, and a whole lot of paper. That is just the nature of accounting, I suppose. We don’t really go in for fancy decorations. We just focus on the tax laws and the numbers. People come in with their folders full of receipts and we try to make sense of it all. It’s a steady kind of job. We see the same faces every year when tax season rolls around. It’s nice to have that connection with the local people. We aren't a big corporate entity. We are just a local firm doing our bit. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just wait it out or use the backup. That's life in West Bengal. We don’t make big promises. We just tell people we will look at their accounts and do our best. It’s a straightforward way to live. If you’re in the area, you can’t miss the lane. It’s right there in the middle of everything. We've been here since the start and we haven't thought about moving anywhere else. It is just home for the firm.
