Om Trading

Out here in Champadanga, Tarakeswar, things move at a slightly different pace than the bigger cities. We are located right in the thick of the local trading scene. Our day starts early, usually before the sun is fully up, to get things ready for the morning rush. The building isn't anything special to look at, just a sturdy place where we can keep our goods dry and safe. We spend hours counting stock and writing down numbers in our books. It’s a lot of back-and-forth with suppliers and people from the surrounding villages. Sometimes the phone rings all day, and other times it’s quiet enough to hear the birds outside. We don't have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy emails. If someone needs something, they usually just show up or give us a call on the landline. The floor is often covered in bits of packing material and dust from the road. We sweep it out every evening, but it’s back again by the next morning. It’s the kind of business where you get to know the delivery drivers and the local shopkeepers pretty well. We’ve been at this address for a while, and people know where to find us. There’s a certain comfort in the routine of it all. We don’t try to be something we aren’t. We just trade goods and try to keep everything organized as best we can for the next day.
