Vardhman Rice & General Mills

We are out here on the Main Road in Village Durkhada. If you’re driving down Hissar Road, you’ll see our gates. Vardhman Rice & General Mills has been part of this landscape for a long time. The smell of grain is pretty much everywhere around the mill. It’s a dusty place, but that’s expected with the kind of work we do. We have tractors and trucks coming in and out all day long, especially during the harvest months. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and making sure the machinery is running like it should. We don't have fancy office chairs or air conditioning in the main areas. It’s just a regular mill where people work hard. Most of the staff comes from the local villages nearby. We know most of our suppliers by their first names. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but we get back to it. It’s a simple operation, really. We process the rice and handle the general milling tasks that come our way. The weather dictates a lot of what we do. If it rains, things slow down. If it's sunny, we’re out there until dark. We aren't looking to be the biggest mill, just a reliable one for the people around here. The building has some rust on the roof, but it stays dry inside. We just do the work and try to keep everything moving along.
