At Nirakar Engineering Pvt. Ltd., we operate out of unit number 2 in the Kssidc Industrial Estate in Shirwad. Being in an industrial estate means we are surrounded by other businesses doing similar hard work, so there’s a real sense of community among the shops here. Our space is basically a big hall with some partitions for a small office and then a large area for the actual engineering work. It’s often quite loud because of the machinery we use, and the floor is usually covered in metal shavings or bits of scrap. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the place looks to outsiders; we just care that the machines are working and the orders are getting out on time. Shirwad can get quite dusty, especially when the trucks are moving in and out of the estate all day. We have a small crew of workers who have been with us for a long time and they know exactly how to handle the equipment. Most days are pretty routine, involving a lot of measuring, cutting, and welding. We take our breaks together and talk about whatever is going on in town. It’s a straightforward way to make a living, and we take pride in the fact that we can fix things that others can’t. It’s just a normal workshop where we do honest engineering work every day.
