Own Computer Center

Our center is up in Village Baroh, near the P.O. Kharwar in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. It’s a beautiful spot but it can be a bit of a climb to get here. We call it Own Computer Center because that’s what it is—a place with computers for the local village kids and anyone else who needs them. There are a few machines set up and they aren't the newest models, but they work fine for what people need to do. Sometimes the internet is a bit slow because of the hills, but we manage to get things downloaded eventually. We spend our days helping people with forms or teaching someone how to use an email account for the first time. It’s rewarding in its own way, even if it doesn't make us rich. The room is small and the few chairs we have have seen better days. A big sign isn't necessary, just a small one near the door so people know they’re in the right place. Most of the people who come here are our neighbors from Baroh or the surrounding villages. Formal rules don't really exist, just be respectful and don't spill anything on the keyboards. It’s a simple service for the community and we plan to keep it going as long as we can. Being quiet here allows us to see the mountains every single day.
