Manik Chandra runs things out of his house in Mihuna Muskara. Hamirpur gets really dry during the summer months, so water is always the main thing on our minds. We started this agro producer company because the local markets were not really working in our favor when we went there individually. It is just a small group of us who live nearby and know each other well. Manik is a very practical guy who doesn't like wasting any time on fancy talk or empty promises. We grow mostly what we know can survive in this intense heat. The company address is really just Manik’s front room. We spend a lot of time on the porch or sitting in the yard talking about the upcoming sowing season. The paperwork to get the company started was a bit of a nightmare for us, but we eventually got it sorted out. We aren't trying to change the entire world or anything, we are just trying to make sure our hard work doesn't go to waste. Sometimes the roads around Hamirpur are a bit too rough for the older tractors we use. We share whatever tools and equipment we have among the group. It is a very local, grassroots thing. If you come by to see us, you will probably find us sorting through bags of grain or checking the moisture levels. We don't have an HR department or some fancy CEO. It is just Manik and the rest of the farmers trying to keep things moving forward. We take it one day at a time.
