Kishori Oil & Dal Mill

We operate out of Shop No-A-1 in the New Galla Mandi. It’s right on the Charkhari By-Pass Road. Being a mill, it’s a pretty dirty and noisy job. We process oil and dals, so there is always the sound of machinery in the background. You can smell the mustard and the pulses being ground from a distance. The bypass road sees a lot of heavy trucks, which kicks up a lot of dust. We spend a lot of time cleaning the equipment because it gets gunked up with oil. It’s not a place for nice clothes. We wear old shirts that we don't mind getting stained. The Mandi is a busy place, especially during harvest season. That's when we barely have time to sit down. We have piles of gunny bags everywhere. Some are full of raw seeds, others are full of processed dal. We’ve been here since the new Mandi opened up. It’s a practical business. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. People come here because they know how we press the oil. It’s a bit of a messy life, but we like the work. We just keep the machines running and the bags moving. Sometimes the noise gets to you, but you get used to it after a while. It’s just what happens when you work in a mill like this. We try to keep the belts tight and the motor running smooth all day long.
