Down here in Lashkar, specifically around Daulat Ganj, things stay pretty busy. We’ve been running Khusiram Furniture for quite some time. It’s a local place where we mostly focus on making things that last. If you walk into the shop, you’ll see stacks of wood and probably smell sawdust right away. We don’t go for those slick advertisements you see in big cities. We just build chairs, tables, and whatever else people around here need for their homes. Most of our day is spent hammering or sanding down rough edges. Sometimes the heat in the workshop gets a bit much during the afternoons, so we take a break and then get back to it. Our family has been doing this for a while. We know the neighbors and they know where to find us. If a hinge is loose or a leg is wobbly, we fix it. It’s not complicated. Using whatever materials we can get our hands on that feel sturdy enough is how we work. People stop by to chat as much as they do to buy a bed frame. It’s just the way it works in Daulat Ganj. We keep the doors open and try to finish our orders on time. Some weeks are faster than others. That is just life in the furniture trade. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to make a decent table. It's enough.
