If you ever find yourself walking through Lohiya Bazaar, you will probably end up in Nalwali Gali at some point. It is a tight squeeze, especially when the carts are trying to get past each other. Ghasiram Bajnath & Company has been tucked away here for years, and the walls of the shop are covered in old ledgers and dust from the street. The name on the board is a bit faded now, but everyone in the bazaar knows where we sit. It is mostly just us sitting around the ledger books, waiting for the next phone call or a regular trader to walk in through the narrow door. We deal in the kind of stuff that leaves your hands black by the end of the day. There is always a tea seller nearby who brings us glass cups of hot chai, which helps when the winter chill settles into the stone floors of the bazaar. We don't really do much in the way of decoration. The inventory is what matters, and it is usually stacked right up to the ceiling in the back room. Sometimes the light in the lane is so dim you can barely see what you are writing, but we manage. It is a traditional way of doing things, passed down without much changing over the decades. We just keep track of the metal and the money, making sure the tallies match up before we lock the heavy shutters for the night.
