Maa Kamakhaya Store

Our shop is located in Rehabari, Guwahati, right on A K Azad Road. It’s very close to the Employment Office, so we see a lot of people walking back and forth all day. Guwahati rain can be really heavy, and sometimes the water collects on the road outside. We have to keep everything inside the store dry. It’s a small space, mostly filled with everyday items that people in the neighborhood need. We spend our time behind the counter, mostly just waiting for the next person to walk in. The traffic on A K Azad Road is constant, so there is always the sound of horns and engines. It’s a bit of a walk from the main intersections, but people know where we are. We don’t have fancy lighting, just some tube lights that flicker sometimes. Maa Kamakhaya Store is a simple place. We stock things like soap, snacks, and other small household goods. Usually, the mornings are slow and things pick up in the evening when people are going home. We have a small stool to sit on when the legs get tired. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but for now, they are okay. We just focus on keeping the stock updated and talking to the regulars who live around Rehabari. It’s a modest way to make a living in this city and we are fine with it.
