We are way up on the 5th and 6th floors of East Point Tower in Bamunimaidan. It’s a big building and sometimes the elevators take forever to arrive, which is just something we deal with every single morning. Being the North Eastern Handicrafts Handlooms Development Corporation means we have a lot of different things going on at once. Our floors are usually covered in samples of different fabrics, woven baskets, and wooden items that come in from all over the region. It isn't a quiet office; there is always someone coming in with a new shipment or people sitting around a wooden table looking at new designs. Bamunimaidan is a busy hub, and looking out from the 6th floor gives us a good view of the traffic and the weather moving in. We spend a lot of time coordinating with different artisans and trying to manage the limited space we have. It gets a bit crowded when a lot of stock arrives at the same time and we have to find places to put it all. The staff here has been around for many years, so we all know each other’s families and stories. It’s more like a big, slightly disorganized family than a strict office environment. We have stacks of files and boxes in the corners, and someone is always looking for a missing invoice or a specific piece of colored cloth.
