Tara Chand Tej Ram

Being near the Main Post Office in Sadar Bazar means we are right in the heart of the chaos. Tara Chand Tej Ram has been a name around here for a long time. The street outside is always packed with people pushing carts or looking for a bargain. You can hear the post office workers shouting and the constant honking of horns. Inside our shop, it is a bit of a refuge from that, though the noise still leaks in. We have tall wooden shelves packed with goods, and we use a ladder to get to the top ones. It is an old-school way of doing things, but it works for us. We do not have a computer system that tracks everything perfectly; we mostly rely on memory and a few handwritten notebooks. The floor is old tile that is worn down in the spots where people stand the most. We get a lot of light from the front entrance, but the back of the shop is always a bit dim. My father used to run things here, and not much has changed since his time. We still use the same heavy iron safe. When someone asks for a price, we usually know it off the top of our heads. It is a busy life, and your feet hurt by five o'clock, but being in the middle of Sadar Bazar means there is never a dull moment. We just keep the door open and wait to see who comes in next.
