Bharat Painter

Bharat Painter is based at 205 in the Anand Ganga Complex on Jail Road. If you know the area, you know how packed Jail Road gets with all the furniture shops and traffic. Our unit is filled with the scent of turpentine and fresh paint most of the time. We’ve got shelves sagging under the weight of different cans and color swatches that are starting to curl at the edges. It’s not a showroom by any means. It’s a workspace where we get our hands messy every single day. The floor is covered in drips of every color imaginable, which I think looks kind of nice in a weird way. We started here because the complex is central and easy for people to find. We don't have a big staff, just a few guys who know how to handle a brush and a ladder. We spend a lot of time mixing colors until they look just right. Sometimes a customer comes in with a scrap of fabric and we spend an hour trying to match it perfectly. The light in the complex isn't the best, so we often take our boards outside to see the real color in the sun. We don't bother with fancy advertising or anything. People just see our work on a wall somewhere or hear about us from someone else. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down and we lock up.
