Anees Scrap Works

You’ll find us in U Block of Gurgaon Village, near the Sabzi Madni area. It’s a busy part of the village with lots of noise and people moving around. Our yard is full of all sorts of things—old metal, plastic, stacks of cardboard. It’s not the cleanest place, but that’s the nature of scrap work. We spend the whole day weighing things and sorting them into piles. It’s heavy work and our clothes usually get pretty stained by the end of the day. People bring us all kinds of junk from their houses or construction sites nearby. We use a big old scale that’s seen better days, but it still works fine. The sun beats down on the yard in the afternoon, so we take breaks under the small tin roof. Sometimes the trucks have a hard time getting through the narrow lanes to pick up the sorted stuff. It can be a bit of a mess when it rains, but we keep at it. We’ve been in this spot for a while now. Most of the neighbors know us by name. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just show up with their carts or trucks. We just keep piling things up and moving them out. It’s a hard way to earn a living, but it’s what we know. We stay here until the sun goes down.
