The Leela Kempinski

We are based in Onkar Apartment, right behind the Bharat Seva Ashram in Sonari. This is in Jamshedpur. It’s a busy little pocket of Jharkhand. Most people associate the name The Leela Kempinski with big hotels, but this particular spot is where we handle things locally. It’s an apartment, nothing too flashy. We have some desks and a couple of phones. We've been here for a while. The neighborhood is mostly families. You can hear kids playing outside in the evenings. We do a lot of the background work here. It involves a lot of scheduling and talking to staff. It’s not always easy. Sometimes the internet is slow or the water doesn't run. We just deal with it. Jamshedpur is a steel town, so everything feels very industrial but we are tucked away in a quieter part. We don't have a big sign outside. You have to know where to look. We focus on our tasks and try to stay organized. It’s just a few of us in the office most days. We drink a lot of tea and talk about what needs to be done. It’s a grounded way to work. No corporate speeches or big meetings. Just real people doing their bit in Sonari. We have a balcony where we stand sometimes to get some fresh air. The apartment gets a bit dusty because of the road, but we keep it clean. It's just our everyday life.
