This shop at Subhash Nagar 556/1/7 has a lot of history to it. Raj Sewing Machine & Radio Co isn't like the new modern stores you see popping up everywhere. We still have that smell of machine oil and old electronics that has soaked into the walls over the decades. I spend most of my time leaning over a workbench with a small screwdriver or a pair of pliers. Sewing machines are heavy things, and they take up a lot of room on the floor, while the radios sit on the higher shelves. Some of the radios are so old they still have those big glass valves inside. People from all over Subhash Nagar bring in their grandmother's old machines that haven't worked in years, hoping I can find a spare part. It’s a bit of a treasure hunt sometimes, looking through old drawers full of springs and gears. The light in here is a bit yellow, and the floorboards creak when you walk near the back. I usually keep a kettle in the corner for making tea in the afternoon. It gets a bit dusty with all the thread lint and old metal, but I don’t mind it much. It is a slow kind of work, but it keeps my hands busy. There is a sense of peace in fixing something that was built to last, even if it takes a while to get it right.
