The noise from the highway never really stops at Prem Feed Mills Pvt. Ltd. We are located right at the 38Th Mile Stone on Nh-8, which means there is a constant stream of trucks and cars passing by the Mandeep Estate. If you take the turn onto Behrampur Road, you will find our mill. It’s a dusty place, mostly because of the grain and the feed we process every day. The machines are old but they still work hard, just like the rest of us. My desk is usually covered in a fine layer of dust by noon, no matter how many times I wipe it down. We spend a lot of time checking the bags and making sure the mix is right before it goes out on the trucks. The sun hits the metal roof in the afternoons and it gets quite warm inside. We usually have tea under the shade of a small tree near the gate. It’s not a glamorous job, but the local farmers count on us to have their supplies ready. The traffic on the Nh-8 can be a nightmare on Monday mornings, so we try to get the heavy loading done early. It is just a routine of grinding, bagging, and moving things around the estate until the sun goes down and the next shift takes over. We are just a local mill doing our part on the edge of the highway.
