Hotel Swasno Palace

If you go down to Mehrauli in New Delhi, you will find us at House 286 in Ward II. It is an old area, very crowded with lots of history all around the streets. The hotel is right in the middle of all that noise. It is not a huge palace like the name might suggest, just a decent place to stay if you need to be in that part of the city for a night or two. The streets outside are narrow and there is always someone yelling or a scooter honking its horn. Inside, it is a bit quieter than the street. We have rooms spread out over a few floors. The stairs are a bit steep for some people. We spend a lot of our time cleaning and making sure the linen is fresh for whoever is coming in next. Being in Mehrauli is interesting because you see all sorts of people walking by. It is not like the shiny, modern parts of New Delhi; it feels more real and a bit messy. We have got the front desk right as you walk in from the street. It is usually just one or two of us working there at any time. We help people find their way to the monuments nearby or the closest metro station. The building itself has been around for a long time. We do our best to keep everything working, though sometimes the plumbing in these old areas has its own ideas.
