Hotel Galaxy

Running Hotel Galaxy on Nala Pani Road in Dehradun is mostly about the daily chores. We are at number 4/3 and it’s a spot that stays pretty busy because of the location. Every morning, the first thing we do is check the rooms and see who is checking out. The air here in Dehradun is usually a bit cooler than the plains, so we spend time making sure the blankets are clean and the geysers are working. It’s not a huge place, just a simple building where people stay when they are passing through. I spend a lot of time behind the small desk at the entrance. The road outside can get a bit loud with the local traffic, but it settles down at night. We don't have a big corporate team, just a few of us who handle the cleaning and the front gate. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to get the backup going. We mostly just talk to the guests about where they can find a good meal nearby or how to get to the main market. The walls are painted a simple color and we try to keep the plants out front alive. It’s a lot of folding towels and making sure there is enough tea in the kitchen. We’ve been here at this address for a while and everyone in the neighborhood knows the building. It’s just a normal place to sleep.
