We are over here in Hisar, right in New Professor Colony. Most days, the office at Delhi Assam Roadways Corporation Ltd is just a bunch of us handling paperwork and answering phone calls from drivers who are halfway across the country. It gets pretty dusty in Azad Nagar, especially when the wind picks up, and we are constantly cleaning the desks. We deal with routes going all the way from here to the northeast, which is a long way if you look at a map. Sometimes the tea guy is late, and that is usually the biggest drama of the morning. It is not a fancy setup. We have some old files stacked up and the computers hum all day. People think transport is just about trucks, but it is really just a lot of talking and making sure things show up where they are supposed to. Living and working in Haryana has its own pace. You get used to the noise of the street and the rhythm of the loaders coming and going. We have been at 57 New Professor Colony for a while now, so everyone in the area knows where to find us if they need something moved. It is just basic work, really. No big secrets to it. We just show up, drink our chai, and try to keep the wheels turning without too many headaches. It is a decent living and the people here are alright.
