Our back office is based out of a building in the 110018 area, which sits around the edge of New Delhi and Haryana. It is a big, greyish building that has seen better days. Inside, the halls are long and the lights flicker sometimes in the corridors. We deal with all the stuff people don't see—entry logs, records, and endless spreadsheets. It’s not the part of the airline people see when they are flying. There are no uniforms here, just regular clothes and a lot of pens. We spend most of our day staring at old monitors and typing in data. The canteen downstairs is okay, but most of us just bring food from home because it's easier. The windows look out onto other industrial buildings and some patches of dry grass. When it rains, the parking lot gets huge puddles that take days to dry up. We have a lot of old files stacked in the corners because we haven’t moved them to the digital system yet. It’s a slow process. Most of the staff has been here for a long time, so we all know each other’s stories. We don’t really have meetings that lead anywhere, we just talk about what needs to be finished by Friday. It’s a steady, somewhat boring job, but it keeps the wheels turning behind the scenes. We just show up, do the entries, and head back home. That is pretty much our daily life.
