Our hardware shop is tucked into Mohan Market on Saili Road in Pathankot. It is pretty close to Mamoon Cantt, so we get a lot of folks from that side coming in. I took over this place from my uncle, and honestly, I haven't changed much at all. The sign outside is a little faded from the sun, but people seem to find us okay. Inside, it’s a bit of a jumble of pipes, wrenches, and buckets of paint. I know exactly where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone walking in for the first time. We spend a lot of time moving heavy bags of putty or searching for a specific size of washer in the drawers. The floor is concrete and has some stains from spilled oil or primer over the years. Saili Road is always noisy with bikes and trucks, so you have to speak up a bit when you're talking to customers. We don’t have a fancy computer system for sales; we just write everything down in a bill book. It’s hard work and your hands are always dirty by the end of the day, but it’s what we do. Sometimes the tea stall next door brings over a cup and we take a short break on the wooden bench outside when things are slow. It is just a basic hardware store serving the local neighborhood here in Pathankot. We don't try to be anything else and just keep going.
