Mahajan Hardwares

Mahajan Hardwares is right at Hanuman Chowk, just a stone's throw from Kedarnath & Sons. If you know the area, you know how busy this intersection can get. I spend most of my day behind the counter, looking out at the traffic. The shop is filled with all sorts of metal items like hinges, handles, and locks. We’ve got shelves that go all the way up to the ceiling, so I have to use a shaky old ladder to reach the top rows. It’s a bit dusty back in the corners because some of those items have been sitting there for years waiting for the right person to need them. I don't really use a computer; I prefer my paper notebook for keeping track of what we sell. The building itself is quite old and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but I never seem to find the time. We get all kinds of people coming in, from professional builders to someone just looking for a single screw to fix a cupboard door. Sometimes I can’t find exactly what they want right away, so we have a bit of a hunt through the drawers. It’s just me and a helper most days. We close up when the sun goes down and the market starts to quiet down a little bit. It’s just an ordinary life in a busy part of town and I'm okay with that for now.
