Sri Vasavi Rice Mill

If you are heading toward Mudurthi Junction, you will see us near the main road in Venkannapalem Village. Sri Vasavi Rice Mill is hard to miss because of the constant sound the machinery makes when we are processing the paddy. It is a noisy place, and the air always smells a bit like toasted grain and damp earth. We have been at D.No.547/3 for a long time. The floors are usually covered in a thin layer of husk, no matter how much we sweep throughout the day. It’s just the nature of running a mill. Farmers bring their loads on tractors or bullock carts, and we spend the day unloading and getting to work. It’s hard work, especially when the weather is humid and the machines get hot. We don't have a fancy waiting room, just a few wooden benches under the shade where people sit and chat while they wait for their turn. Sometimes the power goes out, and everything goes silent for a while, which is a bit of a relief for the ears. We handle the rice carefully because we know how much effort went into growing it. It’s a local operation, and we don’t try to be anything else. We just want to get the milling done so people can take their rice home. It is just what we do every single day without much change.
