Rice Company

Rice Company is located at 3/4/146 on an unnamed road in Ananthavaram. It’s funny because even though the road doesn’t have a name, everyone in the village knows exactly where we are. We are surrounded by green fields for the most part. The quiet is nice, though the tractors can be loud during the planting season. We deal with rice, from cleaning to sorting and packing. It is simple work but it requires a lot of attention. You can’t just rush through it. The building is a basic concrete structure that keeps the grain dry and cool. We have a few dogs that hang around the gates; they aren't ours really, but we feed them. The staff here is mostly local people who walk to work. We don't have any corporate slogans or fancy uniforms. We just wear what is comfortable for a long day of physical labor. Sometimes the dust from the husks makes everyone sneeze, but we are used to it by now. The sun sets right behind the main warehouse and it’s a pretty sight every evening. We don't think much about being a "company" in the big sense. We just think about getting the rice ready for the people who need it. It’s a very old-fashioned way of doing business, but it works for us here. We keep the ledger on the main table where everyone can see the daily totals.
