K.S.Prasad General Stores

I’ve been sitting behind this counter at K.S.Prasad General Stores for a long time now. Most mornings start early, usually around sunrise, just to get everything ready before the first lot of people head out for work. We are tucked away in the 5th Lane of Indira Priyadarshini Colony here in Old Guntur. It’s a quiet spot most days, though things get a bit loud when school starts or when the neighbors are out chatting in the street. My shelves are full of the usual stuff people need. I spend a lot of time checking the bags of rice and making sure the soap and matches are where they should be. Sometimes the delivery trucks take their time getting down the narrow lane, but we manage. People stop by for small things, a pack of biscuits or maybe some spices for dinner. I know most of the faces that walk through the door. We don’t have fancy lights or big signs. It’s just a regular shop. Sometimes the old ceiling fan makes a bit of noise, but it keeps the air moving in the Guntur heat. I keep a ledger on the desk to track what’s going on. It’s mostly just me or my family helping out. We don’t try to do anything too complicated here. If we have it, it’s on the shelf. If we don’t, I try to get it by next week. It’s just how we run things every day.
