Sri Bhagyalakshmi Rice Mill

Our rice mill is right on the Main Road in Karlapalem and you can usually hear the hum of the machinery long before you see the front gate. It is a dusty kind of job, but it is what we have been doing for years now. We take the grain from the farmers around here and process it so it is ready for the market. The building is an old-fashioned tall structure meant for storage and milling, so it gets pretty warm inside during the afternoons. We do not have any fancy office staff or people in suits. It is just us and the guys who handle the heavy bags. We spend a lot of time fixing things when they break because that is just how it goes with older equipment. People in Karlapalem know us by name and they just drop by when they need to talk about a load of rice. We do not bother with advertisements or brochures. The work is hard on the back, especially when we are loading up the trucks, but it is honest work. We take a tea break in the shade when the sun is at its highest. The smell of the raw grain is always in the air and it feels like home to us. We just try to keep the mill running smooth and treat everyone fairly who walks through the door. It is a steady life.
