K. Koteswara Rao & Co. is based in the Sunrise Building, which is right across from the Lalapet Police Station on the Main Road in Guntur. Being so close to the station means there is always something going on outside, with sirens and people coming and going at all hours. Our offices are in rooms 180 and 181, and they are usually filled with the sound of calculators and pens scratching on paper. Guntur is known for its heat, and the Sunrise Building is an older structure, so we rely heavily on our ceiling fans to keep the air moving. We handle a lot of accounts and trade details, so most of the day is spent looking at numbers and talking to farmers or other traders who come in from the main road. It’s a very practical environment with wooden cupboards full of old ledgers and a few chairs for visitors to sit on while we talk business. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just a calendar and maybe a clock that is usually a few minutes fast. The staff has been together for a long time, so we function like a well-worn machine. We stop for a long break in the afternoon when the sun is at its peak and then get back to work once it cools down a bit. It’s a traditional way of doing things, and it works for us. We just focus on the daily tasks and keeping our records straight.
