The smell of fresh hay and cows is what greets you every morning at Chirikivanipalem. We’re located at survey number 454_4 in Kotapadu. It’s not right in the middle of town, which is better for the animals anyway. Our days start way before the sun is even up. Most of the time is spent checking on the herd and making sure the milking equipment is clean and working right. It’s a messy job, honestly. There’s always mud on someone’s boots and the floor needs hosing down constantly. We don’t have a fancy reception area. If you come by, you’ll probably find us near the sheds or the cooling tanks. We handle the milk and make sure it’s ready for the trucks that come through. Sometimes a cow gets sick or a machine breaks down, and then the whole day feels like a race to catch up. We’ve got a few people working here who have been around cattle their whole lives, so they know the animals better than they know most people. It’s a quiet life in some ways, but very busy in others. We just focus on getting the dairy work done and keeping things running at the site. It’s a basic operation, no bells or whistles, just plenty of milk and long hours on our feet.
