We are set up on the Main Road in Narang Pet. Yadgir is just a short trip from here. This place is all about the clay. You can smell the earth as soon as you walk onto the site. We’ve got the kilns burning most of the time, except during the monsoon when the ground gets too soft. Making bricks is a slow process. You can't rush the drying part or they’ll just crack later. We have a group of guys who have been with us for years. They know exactly how to stack the bricks so the heat flows through the rows. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. My back feels it every evening. We don't have any big corporate signs. We just have the bricks piled up by the road. People stop their trucks and ask what we have ready. Sometimes we run out of stock if there’s a big project nearby. It’s a bit messy, with the mud and the ash everywhere. That's just the nature of it. We live nearby, so it’s a short walk to work. We see the same faces on the Main Road every day. It’s a simple life. We make the bricks, we sell them, and then we start over with more clay. It’s about the rhythm of the work. You get used to the smoke and the dust after a while. It’s just part of being in Narang Pet. The red color stays on everything we own.
