Checker (Structural)

Our workshop is located in Bramhapuri, down in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. We are right near the Krishna Talkies in Gujari Ward, which is a pretty central spot in our town. If you are walking past the cinema, you can’t really miss us. We do structural work, which basically means we deal with the skeletons of buildings and other metal structures. The name on the door is Checker (Structural), though most people around here just know us by our names. The shop is full of welding equipment, grinders, and heavy steel beams. It gets quite loud when we are in the middle of a job, and the heat in Maharashtra doesn't make the welding any easier. We don’t have a fancy reception area; you just walk in and you’ll find us working on whatever project is on the bench that day. Most of our work is for local people who are building houses or shops and need some solid structural support. We have been in Gujari Ward for a good number of years now and have a pretty steady routine. We start the day by checking the drawings and then get to cutting and joining the metal. It’s a practical trade and we take it seriously, making sure everything is aligned and strong. It is not a clean job, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing a big structure come together from just a pile of steel. We just keep going.
