Sarvodaya Carpets

Our place, Sarvodaya Carpets, is located over at R-6/100 in Raj Nagar. It is more of a quiet workspace than a retail shop, filled with the smell of raw wool and the sound of heavy shears. We have piles of rugs stacked up in the corners, some finished and some just started on the looms. Raj Nagar is mostly a residential area, so it is usually much quieter here than in the main city markets. You will find bits of colored thread on the floor no matter how much we sweep at the end of the day. We do not spend money on fancy displays or big advertisements to get people in. Most folks find us because they live nearby or heard about the work from a neighbor. We spend hours sitting and checking the knots or looking over the patterns spread out on the ground. It is slow work, and you cannot really rush it without making a mess of the design. Sometimes the light in the late afternoon is just right for seeing the true colors of the yarn we use. We have a small stove in the corner for making tea during our breaks. It gets a bit cramped when a new shipment of wool arrives, and we have to shuffle everything around to make enough space to move. We have been at this address for quite a while now. It is a simple setup where we focus on the weaving.
