We are set up right behind the Balaji Dharmakanta at the 6th Milestone near the UP Border. If you know the area of Chikamberpur, you know it’s mostly about trucks and heavy transport. Patel Roadways Ltd. has been here for a long time, right where all the action happens at the edge of the city. The office isn't much to look at, just a functional space where the drivers come to hand in their logs and get their next assignments. It’s often quite noisy because of the heavy vehicles passing by or stopping at the weighbridge. There is always a layer of dust on everything from the road, no matter how much we clean. We have some wooden chairs for the drivers to sit on while they wait, and the walls are mostly bare except for some transport schedules. It’s a very hands-on environment. We deal with road permits, fuel receipts, and keeping track of where every truck is on the highway. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use flashlights to find the right ledger. It’s a tough business and the hours are long, but this is our spot. We don't have fancy air conditioning, just some heavy-duty fans that keep the air moving. You can hear the horns honking all day long from the border crossing. It’s just a regular place where people work hard to make sure goods get to where they are supposed to go.
