N S Computer is right by the Nandgram bus stand, which means there is never a quiet moment. You can hear the conductors shouting and the engines idling all day long. It is a dusty spot, but it is where we work. We’ve got a small space filled with various parts and screens. Most of the time, the floor is covered with cables or a tower that we’ve opened up to look inside. It’s not the cleanest office you’ll ever see, but it’s practical. People come in when their machines stop working or when they need something quick before catching their bus. We sit at the back under a noisy ceiling fan that has been wobbling for years. The light from the front door lets us know when someone has walked in, usually bringing a bit of the outside heat with them. Nandgram is a busy place, and being near the bus stand keeps us on our toes. We don’t really do big meetings or fancy presentations. Most of our day is spent hunched over a desk with a screwdriver in hand or staring at a monitor. Sometimes we grab a tea from the stall next door while we wait for a file to load. It is just a regular shop doing regular things for the people around here. We close up when the last few buses start leaving for the night. We keep a few spare keyboards on the shelf just in case someone needs one.
