Mariyam Nagar in the Ghookna area of Ghaziabad is where our shop is located. Being quite close to the Shiv Mandir makes it easy for people to explain our location. The shop is a standard local hair place. Blue-tinted mirrors and swivel chairs that have seen better days are what you'll find inside. Because it gets messy fast, we are constantly sweeping the tiled floor. Ghookna has a lot of regular working people, so the hours are meant to fit their schedules. We open up in the morning and stay until the evening lights come on. Even if the ceiling fan wobbles a little bit, it helps with the heat. A small shelf holds the combs and the scissors, next to a jar for the tips. Sometimes a small radio plays old songs in the background. This is not a place for anything fancy. People sit down, get their hair cut, and then go on with their day. Most of the people who walk through the door are known to us by name. It’s just a part of the Mariyam Nagar neighborhood. Keeping the place tidy is a goal, but with the road right there, some dust always finds its way in. That is just how things are around here. The neighborhood has grown over the years, but the way we do things in the shop hasn't changed much at all.
