Lala Shri Ram And Company

Our place is at House No.51/88 in Naya Ganj. If you know this part of the city, you know how busy it gets. The streets are narrow and there is always someone moving something or shouting about a price. Lala Shri Ram And Company has been in this building for a long time now. The building is old and the stairs are a bit steep, but we are used to it. Inside, it is usually quite crowded with goods and ledgers. We do not have air conditioning, just a couple of big fans that move the hot air around in the summer. It gets very dusty because of all the traffic outside, so we are always wiping down the desks. Most of our day is spent talking to people who come in from the market. We sit on these old stools and drink tea while we settle the accounts. It is not a quiet office by any means. You can hear the rickshaws and the motorbikes all day long. We keep our books by hand mostly, though we have a small computer for the bits that need it. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait, chatting with whoever is around. It is a very local way of doing things. We do not have a marketing team or anything like that. We just open the doors early in the morning and stay until the market starts to quiet down in the evening.
