We’ve been at Cm 201 in Amrapalli Village for a good while now. Ghaziabad is changing fast and being right here in Uttar Pradesh means we see a lot of people looking for a bit of land or a home to call their own. It is not always easy managing all the paperwork that comes with being a coloniser. The office gets quite dusty during the summer months but we keep the fans going and get through the files one by one. People walk in from the street wanting to know about plot sizes or what the local rules are this week. We mostly spend our time checking maps and making sure the boundaries are where they should be. It’s a lot of talking to neighbors and local officials. Sometimes the traffic outside the village gate gets backed up, making it hard for folks to find us, but once they are inside the office, things are usually straightforward. We don’t have a big fancy lobby or anything like that. Just some chairs, a few desks, and plenty of tea for whoever stops by to talk business. Most of our days are spent on the phone or walking around the sites to see how things are looking on the ground. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down over the flats. It is just the way we like to do things here in our little corner of the village.
