We have our little shop set up in Shastri Nagar, and if you live around here, you’ve probably walked past us once or twice. It isn't a huge place, just a simple room with our machines and a mirror for people to see how things fit. We started out small and stayed that way because it’s easier to manage things ourselves. The floor is almost always covered in little snips of thread and fabric scraps, no matter how many times we sweep. It’s just the nature of the work in Shastri Nagar. Some days are slow and we just sit and drink tea, and then suddenly everyone wants their clothes finished by Tuesday. That is when it gets stressful and we stay late into the night. We don't have a fancy sign or anything, just the name on the door. The sewing machines have their own personalities; one of them skips stitches if you run it too fast, so we have to be careful with that one. Customers come in and talk about their day while we take measurements, so we hear a lot of stories from the neighborhood. It’s a quiet life for the most part, apart from the hum of the motors. We don't use any high-tech gadgets here, just our eyes and hands and some sharp needles. It’s been our way of doing things for a long time now and it seems to work out okay for everyone involved.
