Our spot is at E-176 in Sector-63. It’s a bit different from the heavy metal shops nearby because we deal more with the brains of the machines. There are always control panels open on the workbenches with wires hanging out everywhere. It looks like a mess to someone walking in, but we know where every single colored wire is supposed to go. We spend a lot of time staring at screens and then poking around inside electrical boxes with screwdrivers. It’s a lot of sitting and then suddenly a lot of rushing around when a panel needs to be tested and shipped out. The office part of the building is where we do the planning, but most of the real action happens in the back where the assembly is. We’ve had some long nights here when a logic controller wasn’t behaving and we had to stay late to figure out why. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we moved in, with more buildings going up every year. Parking is a nightmare most mornings, so we usually get in early just to find a spot near the gate. It is a technical kind of job, but at the end of the day, it’s still just about making sure the lights come on and the motors turn when they are supposed to.
